PAASCU General Assembly 2021

PAASCU’s 54th General Assembly with the theme, “Adapting Teaching-Learning Modalities to the New Normal,” was held virtually last November 26, 2021. The new PAASCU President, Br. Edmundo “Dodo” L. Fernandez, FSC, gave the Welcome Remarks and Opening Address.  Br. Dodo shared PAASCU’s work in responding to the ongoing quality assurance challenges schools face during the pandemic and transitioning to a new normal.  He also laid out PAASCU’s strategic plan for the next three years under his leadership.  This plan includes promoting quality assurance through external accreditation, particularly to non-member schools, engaging with relevant professional and regulatory organizations, and strengthening stakeholders’ understanding of the PAASCU mission and its quality standards.

Fr. Johnny C. Go, SJ, Dean of the Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design, Ateneo de Manila University, facilitated the learning session centered on the different teaching-learning modalities that schools can consider in the new normal.  He presented four models the schools could adopt to help transition to the new normal such as Blended Learning (technology-enriched), Flex Learning (hybrid-flexible or blend-flexible), Hybrid Learning, and Online Plus (enriched virtual). He underlined that an institution might utilize a combination of these models, selecting the one that best fits their needs.

The morning session came to a close with the announcement of the newly elected Board of Trustees and the awarding of accreditors and the PAASCU Secretariat staff for years of service to the Association.

The afternoon session was devoted to several Commission Meetings, during which member schools were informed about the new survey instruments and the accreditation process.

More than 1,500 people participated via Zoom, Facebook, and YouTube.
