HEI TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR NEW ACCREDITORS 2024
On May 22-23, 2024, PAASCU conducted a training workshop for new higher education accreditors at St. Paul University Manila. The two-day workshop aimed to equip participants for accreditation work, familiarize them with external quality assurance, and simulate key processes of PAASCU accreditation.
The morning session of the first day focused on various topics. Mr. Ricardo R. Palo, PAASCU Executive Director, covered the External Quality Assurance (EQA) function and what distinguishes PAASCU from other EQA agencies. Dr. Cecile B. Gutierez, Commission on Graduate Education Chair, discussed PAASCU Standards and survey instruments. Prof. Leonida T. Africa, a Commission on Tertiary Education member, elaborated on the survey visit and the accreditor’s roles, responsibilities, and competencies. Finally, Dr. Lucila R. Calairo, Chair of the Commission on Tertiary Education, addressed evaluating submitted evidence, conducting interviews, and report writing.
The actual simulation of the survey visit took place in the afternoon of the first day through the second day. The 147 participants who qualified for the training were divided into 15 survey teams, each assigned areas to investigate, specifically focusing on Liberal Arts (AB Communication, AB English Language, AB in Visual Design and Communication, and BS Psychology), Elementary & Secondary Education, Business Administration, and Entrepreneurship programs. Team chairs and members of different HEI commissions led the teams. During the simulation, participants interviewed key administrators, students, and faculty. The activity concluded with a wrap-up session where trainees presented their findings and provided commendations and recommendations.
PAASCU thanks member schools for sending their qualified faculty and administrators for training and to St. Paul University Manila for graciously hosting the event.
